10 Signs Of ADHD In Children
It is not unusual for kids to bounce off of walls and display high levels of energy. However, if they are displaying high energy non-stop along with a quick temper, trouble sitting still, and difficulty focusing, there may be something else at the center of the unexplained energy. Here are 10 signs of ADHD in children:
1. Trouble focusing. If you find that your child can’t finish one task at a time, you may have a cause for concern. If they’re supposed to be finishing their homework, but they decide to start on chores, then they move on to watching a movie, but soon after they start playing with toys, this is a clear indicator that they are not able to focus on a task or activity for long periods of time. A very common symptom.
2. They can’t sit still. If you’re child constantly fidgets and has trouble sitting still & staying in one place, this may be a sign. They constantly run around, trying to do multiple things at once and they simply cannot stay still no matter how many times you’ve asked, this would definitely be considered a red flag.
3. Emotional outbursts. Kids with ADHD usually find it hard to follow instructions without feeling an urge to be impulsive or become distracted. Because of this, they find it extremely difficult to easily change from one activity to another which can led to emotional outbursts and temper tantrums.
4. Carelessness towards others. Individuals who deal with this disorder both children and adults, are constantly at the mercy of their brains and its jarring behavior. Since its a struggle to even focus during something as simple as a conversation, it can appear as though they are careless towards people in certain situations.
5. Difficulty learning. ADHD affects your attention span, thus effecting a child’s learning abilities. They can get easily distracted and since it’s harder for them to focus, there attention will be placed on various things, causing difficulty when it comes to soaking in new information.
6. Exhibits impulsive behavior. A child constantly blurting out answers in class when they weren’t called on or interrupting discussions and conversations seemingly without any remorse, is a child that that is exuding impulsive behavior, a common sign of ADHD.
7. Finds it hard to pay attention. Since ADHD effects your attention span, a child may find it especially hard to pay attention. No matter how long or how short an amount of attention their work may require, they may find it extremely difficult to pay attention since it’s more of a challenge for them to hone in, and control their attention span.
8. They are never organized. Despite how many times you’ve asked them to place their belongings in a certain place, their rooms always look as if a mini tornado has come through and caused damage. If it’s a constant battle every single day for your child to be organized with their backpacks, clothes, toys, or anything else that belongs to them, they may unfortunately be dealing with the distracting disorder.
9. They have a hard time listening. If you’re a teacher or a parent and you find yourself repeating certain things over and over to a child or if during class instead of listening to the lecture they are looking around elsewhere, daydreaming, or even doodling in their notebook, try your best to have patience. As this is something they have very little control over, and they will need help rather than discipline.
10. Continuous mistakes. Due to the complexity of keeping their thoughts centered long enough to think through completing a task, a child may make multiple mistakes. Over time these mistakes may accumulate, and it may become harder and harder for them to execute certain tasks properly. Again, patience is key as ADHD has to be worked through, and not penalized or punished. MarriageSofa
