We’re all well aware of the dangers that bacon can potentially pose to our health. However, there is another side to this story….a very healthy side. Apparently bacon isn’t all bad, as it actually provides our bodies with beneficial nutrients that can aid in keeping our bodies happy and healthy.

Bacon boosts brain health. Bacon contains choline, an important macro-nutrient that aids in brain development and many other important bodily functions. Improved memory & brain cell size, faster learning, and a much longer attention span, are just a few ways our brains benefit from choline. It’s also essential for muscle movement and has been said to possibly play a role in the prevention of Alzheimer’s.

Promotes thyroid health. Having a healthy thyroid gland is imperative, which is all the more reason to eat more bacon. Selenium an important nutrient found in bacon, is very beneficial to the thyroid gland. This nutrient assists in keeping the gland healthy, while further preventing diseases such as goiter. Selenium is also said to assist those that suffer from arthritis and cardiovascular disease.

Excellent source of Niacin. Niacin is known to  have some pretty awesome benefits, but when we don’t get enough of it things can get very ugly. Luckily we don’t have to worry since bacon is packed with this amazing vitamin. Benefits of the B vitamin niacin include healthy eyes, hair, liver, and skin. Niacin also promotes healthy nervous system function and aids in converting carbs into glucose, which helps to give us lots of energy.

Filled with good fats. Although it may sound a little backwards, there is a such thing as good fats. The fats in bacon are mainly comprised of both saturated fats and monounsaturated fats. Monounsaturated fats contain oleic acid, which is known for keeping your heat healthy and strong. Even though saturated fats can have a negative effect on your health, they have been proven beneficial to the health of our immune system. By consuming saturated fats, you ultimately aid your body in the fight against foreign bacteria and viruses.

It’s just awesome. Granted there are some negatives, overall eating bacon seems to help us plenty in the long-run. It’s convenient, versatile, simple to make, and all around tasty. With these wonderful ways of benefiting your health, now you have even more reason to indulge in this crunchy & delicious food. After all, we gotta stay healthy right?
